“We wanted to do this challenge in support of Erme Valley RDA because of all the support they have given Sarah over the years. It’s not just about the riding, invaluable though that is, for Sarah it’s as much about the socialisation, inclusion and friendship, and being a part of something amazing.”
Meet RDA rider Sarah and her friend Laura, who are taking on the challenge of doing 40 laps of the Tamar Bridge, all in effort to support Erme Valley RDA Group in Devon. The Tamar Bridge is over the River Tamar between Saltash, Cornwall and Plymouth, Devon in southwest England. Spanning over 300m the duo will cover over 13 km to make up 40 laps of the bridge, come rain or shine!
To celebrate their 40th anniversary Erme Valley Riding for the Disabled launched their ‘Forty for Forty’ fundraiser, challenging their volunteers, riders and community to set themselves a task or goal to do forty times! There have been challenges such as 40 days of fitness, 40 miles of cycling and 40 day healthy food challenges.
Sarah and Laura have already done over half of their laps and have already raised over £1000. The duo have made the most of their laps, despite the winter English weather, dressing up for Chinese Lunar New Year and Valentines Day.
The whole Group are supporting Sarah and Laura, united in a common goal, to support the service that they all love. In early March, the duo was joined by the Accessible Social Club, who not only joined them for their laps, but also dressed up in hand-decorated t-shirts accessorised with some very cute hobby horses.
Fundraisers like this are essential for RDA Groups, as each is dependent on volunteers and donations to keep providing their vital work. Erme Valley RDA provides invaluable support, therapy and experiences for people with a range of disabilities, improving confidence, socialisation and physical exercise.
Rather than pick something simple to raise funds, we wanted to challenge ourselves, to celebrate 40 years of Erme Valley RDA!
The volunteers at Erme Valley work tirelessly to provide incredible experiences for the disabled community and we’re honoured to be able to give something back.
