The Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) proudly announced Natalie O’Rourke as the recipient of the 2024 Birt Spooner Cup at its 55th Anniversary AGM held yesterday. This award recognised her outstanding dedication to enhancing the lives of disabled individuals through equestrian activities.
As a National Coach Developer and County Coach, Natalie has played a key role in training coaches across the UK. Her leadership at Park Lane Stables has been vital in safeguarding its future, ensuring the continuation of equestrian therapy for those who need it most. In 2021, she led a remarkable fundraising campaign, raising £1.3 million to save the stables from closure, a testament to her unwavering commitment to RDA’s mission.
In recognition of her extraordinary contributions, Natalie was previously awarded an MBE and authored the book Only Heroes and Horses, sharing her journey in promoting equestrian therapy.
Natalie said:
Totally humbled to be the recipient of The Birt Spooner award, there are so many incredible people in RDA I cannot believe that I won. I am so proud to be part of the RDA and everyday is a real privilege. I was genuinely shocked to be nominated so when I won I was flabbergasted. I will endeavour to continue spreading the message of RDA far and wide and bringing horses in to as many peoples lives as possible.
Natalie’s tireless efforts have made a profound impact on the RDA community, making her a truly deserving recipient of this year’s Birt Spooner Cup.
