British Para Driving and Championship Success
Vicky’s journey is one of resilience, passion, and continuous growth. Fifteen years ago, after a stroke left her with paralysis on her right side and a speech impairment, Vicky could have easily been sidelined by the difficulties ahead. Instead, she found strength in the therapeutic power of riding and, later, carriage driving. Today, she’s a Grade 3 Para Dressage rider and an emerging star in the world of carriage driving.
Following her stroke, Vicky was faced with challenges that many would find insurmountable: no speech, limited movement, and a long road to recovery. But rather than letting these obstacles define her, she embraced them as opportunities for growth. Riding became her form of therapy—her chance to regain balance, strength, and confidence.
Although staying straight on a horse was difficult, Vicky saw each ride as a step toward her goals.
A New Passion: Carriage Driving
In 2023, Vicky’s passion expanded when she was introduced to carriage driving by the Wenlo RDA group. Despite weather setbacks delaying the start of lessons, she was soon hooked. Her enthusiasm only grew when she attended the CDSGdd (Carriage Driving Support Group disabled drivers) camp in October 2023 at the Unicorn Centre, where the thrill of carriage driving became her next challenge. The adrenaline rush was immediate and powerful.
At the 2024 RDA Championships, Vicky partnered with Rocky, a 14.2hh grey cob, in the Novice Carriage Driving event. Guided by RDA instructor Penny Allison, Vicky navigated the course with focus and determination, securing a second-place finish.
