Enriching Lives Through Horses

1 in 4 people are disabled or live with long term health conditions, many of whom face persistent barriers that limit their full participation in community life, sport, education and employment.

At RDA we harness the unique power of the human horse connection to enrich lives. We’re proud to support over 39,000 disabled adults and children every year to experience freedom and connection, feel valued and included, and live fulfilling lives,

Our participants gain self-esteem and confidence, strength and wellbeing, and new skills – through our incredible horses and the safe, supportive environments created by our skilled volunteers and coaches.

Thanks to Players of People’s Postcode Lottery

Since 2013 the generosity of People’s Postcode Lottery players has helped make this vital work possible, through more than £6 million of funding that has supported our training, programmes, and created opportunities that transform lives across the UK.

“RDA sends a huge thank you to all the players of People’s Postcode Lottery for their incredible generosity and long-term support. RDA groups deliver life-changing impact for disabled people in local communities right across the UK, and this ongoing support for our mission is vital as demand continues to grow. We couldn’t do this without you!”

Supporting Our Volunteers and Coaches

Your support enables us to train and mentor thousands of passionate volunteers and coaches, who deliver high-quality, inclusive sessions every day.

Creating Opportunities to Achieve

Thanks to your help, we can run our National and Virtual Championships, develop new inclusive programmes, and build strong evidence of our impact.

There for the Future

People’s Postcode Lottery’s continued support ensures RDA can aim to be here for every disabled person who needs us. We can expand our training, increase accessibility, and share what we learn so even more disabled people can benefit from RDA’s work.

Making a Difference

Thanks to players of People’s Postcode Lottery, we’ve been able to be there for thousands of disabled people, like Maddie and Helen.

Meet Maddy

RDA participant Maddy, and Aimee the pony, featured in the People’s Postcode Lottery 2024 Christmas campaign, appearing alongside Ellie Goulding and Tom Allen. The campaign celebrated the life-changing work of supported charities, including RDA. Since then, Maddy, who began riding with RDA at the age of four, has continued to share her story through various follow-up articles and videos, helping to highlight the ongoing impact of RDA’s work and the vital support provided by players.

Meet Helen

RDA participant Helen from Warwickshire is another powerful example of the life-changing impact of RDA’s work. After a stroke that left her without speech. Helen faced significant challenges. But thanks to the support of RDA and the discovery of the charity by her daughter Clare six years ago, Helen has not only been able to ride again, she’s also made remarkable progress in her speech and confidence.

“RDA means so much to me. It is an opportunity to improve and push myself, in both my physical and mental health. It is an opportunity that I never thought that I would have given the circumstances. I call it my much-needed horse therapy. When I am on the horse the rest of the world’s worries disappear, and it is just the horse and me. It is so very refreshing!”

I think it is the interaction between my son and the horse specifically that has calmed him. He really looks forward to his lesson and has excelled at listening and completing instructions.”

“The only time my wife is really happy is when she is with the horses and people at RDA. It re-connects her with animals she has always loved and opens her to more interpersonal activity. It is wonderful to see.”

It’s the only time I go out during the week. It gets me out of the house, gives me something to look forward to, and makes me feel like I’m doing something normal.”
