New fundraising campaign aims to create more opportunities for disabled children to experience confidence, friendship and belonging this summer.
RDA has launched its new Summer of Inclusion campaign, inviting supporters across the UK to help ensure that disabled children can experience confidence, friendship, adventure and belonging this summer.
For most children, summer is a time of freedom, fun and possibility. School holidays bring opportunities to explore, stay active, spend time with friends and create lasting memories. But for many disabled children and their families, the reality can be very different.
The Summer of Inclusion campaign shines a light on the barriers that many disabled children and their families continue to face during the summer, while celebrating the difference that inclusive experiences can make.
This campaign is about helping ensure that disabled children are included, welcomed and supported to take part in activities that build confidence, connection and a sense of belonging.
While summer can be a joyful season, accessible and inclusive activities are often difficult for families to find. Too many disabled children miss out on opportunities to participate, explore the outdoors and enjoy experiences alongside their peers.
As one parent supported by RDA explains:
“When you’re caring for someone with a disability, any place you go has to be planned meticulously. RDA means my daughters have the opportunity to do something physical together – there are so few activities open to them both that they can enjoy. Their needs are quite varied and we have not come across anywhere else that can meet them in the way RDA does. RDA really does encompass so many needs in one go. At RDA can just step into the arena and enjoy a wonderful session together.” Parent of RDA Participants
RDA helps change that by creating welcoming spaces where disabled children can take part in activities tailored to their individual needs. Across its network of groups and centres, children are supported to develop new skills, gain confidence, enjoy movement and activity, and connect with others in an inclusive environment.
As another parent shared:
“With other groups, Austin can sometimes get a bit lost, especially because he’s blind. But at RDA the focus is completely on him and his individual needs. That’s what makes it so special.” Parent of RDA Participant
For many families, RDA offers something invaluable: a place where they can simply arrive knowing their child will be understood, supported and included.
Throughout the campaign, RDA will share stories from children and families whose lives have been transformed through inclusive opportunities, demonstrating the impact that supporters help make possible every day.
The campaign carries a simple but powerful message: Nobody Left in the Shade.
Together, we can help make this a Summer of Inclusion and champion a future where disabled children feel included, valued and able to belong.
